Arms Lore in Ultima Online
Overview: Arms Lore is a skill that enhances the crafting of weapons and armor, granting bonuses to exceptionally crafted items.
Bonuses:
- Weapons: Increases the Damage Increase property by 1% for every 20 points of Arms Lore. At Grandmaster (GM) level, an exceptionally crafted weapon has a 40% Damage Increase.
- Armor: Increases resistances by 1% for every 20 points of Arms Lore, up to 5%. This bonus is randomly distributed among the resistances.
Usage:
- Passive Use: The skill is automatically checked when crafting any weapon or armor using Blacksmithing, Carpentry, Glassblowing, Tailoring, Tinkering, or Stonecrafting.
- Direct Use: Players can directly use the skill via the skill list, an icon, or a macro. When used on a weapon or armor, a successful attempt results in the message: “You study the item in an attempt to learn more of its craftsmanship and use.” When used on an armored swamp dragon's barding, it gives a condition report.
Condition Reports for Armored Swamp Dragons:
- "The dragon’s barding is in perfect condition."
- "The dragon’s barding is still in very good condition."
- "The dragon’s barding is damaged but still functional."
- "The dragon’s barding is badly damaged and will need to be replaced soon."
Training:
- 0 - 30 Skill: Train at an NPC Blacksmith, Armorer, or Warrior Guildmaster.
- 30 - 100 Skill: Use the skill directly, targeting items. Gains can be sped up with a Scroll of Alacrity and/or training while discorded by a Satyr.
Training Methods:
- Create about 200 daggers and use Razor to create a macro targeting the daggers.
- Target the weapon or armor to learn about its craftsmanship.
- Failure: "You are not certain..."
- Success: "You study the item in an attempt to learn more about its craftsmanship and use."
Passive Training:
- Gain Arms Lore by constructing weapons or armor (excluding shields and ammunition) using Blacksmithing, Tailoring, Carpentry, Tinkering, and Bowcraft.
History:
- Arms Lore was required for Wrestling special moves Stun and Disarm until the Age of Shadows expansion.
