Camping
Camping in Ultima Online
Camping allows a character to log out quickly in the wilderness, bypassing the usual locations like taverns or inns. It's particularly useful for switching characters in combat and logging out on ships, which are immune to campfire flames. However, be cautious—when returning, you might encounter hostile creatures if you haven't chosen a safe campsite.
To set up camp, each character needs a bedroll and kindling. Bedrolls are purchased from NPC provisioners, and kindling can be bought or crafted from boards/logs using fletching tools. Ignite the kindling to create a campfire at your feet. Everyone within 7 tiles hears "You feel it would take a few moments to secure your camp," starting a 30-second timer.
If you move too far from the fire, you'll see "You have left camp; it may not be safe to log out." Once the fire is secure, use your bedroll to log out instantly. Double-click it to unroll, then click again to confirm logging out. You'll receive a "Connection Lost" message, and your bedroll will reappear in your backpack upon logging back in.
Skill level affects only the time to ignite kindling. Even at 0 skill, with patience, it's manageable. Higher skill doesn't shorten the secure delay or increase the fire's radius. GM skill earns the title "the Explorer."
Training
Camping is rarely used since players typically log out in safe zones. Train at an NPC Gypsy up to level 30 by using kindling repeatedly. Each successful campfire setup may raise your skill.
