Roleplay in UOAlive

Roleplay (RP) in UOAlive is about creating immersive and engaging stories within the rich, fantasy world of Ultima Online. Players take on the personas of their characters, interacting with others and the environment to build dynamic narratives. Whether you're a noble knight, a cunning rogue, or a wise mage, RP in UOAlive emphasizes meaningful interactions and storytelling over strict adherence to character archetypes or speech styles. By embracing the game's mechanics and allowing your character's emotions and actions to develop naturally, you can contribute to a vibrant and ever-evolving community story. Dive in, let your imagination guide you, and enjoy the adventure!

A Short Introduction to Role-play

Role-play can be intimidating for some people. Like many things, there so many acronyms as well as a perception that you must use Old English like thee, thou and milady. While this is perfectly acceptable it is not required. Role-play is as much about your character’s back story, personality, and skills as it is how you “speak”.

In-Character (IC) and Out-of-Character (OOC) Text and Speech

  • In-Character (IC): This is when you speak and act as your character would in the game world. IC interactions should be consistent with your character's background, personality, and the setting of Ultima Online. For example, "Greetings, traveler! What brings you to this part of Britannia?"
  • Out-of-Character (OOC): This is when you need to communicate something as yourself, not your character. OOC text is typically enclosed in double parentheses or brackets to distinguish it from IC text. For example, ((I'll be right back, need to take a quick break.))

UO Specific:

Emote: Colon+Space+Text. This will allow you to denote an action of your character. For example, you type “: tips tricorn” (no quotes) in-game which will appear as *tips tricorn*.

UOAlive Specific:

[points: a target cursor that you can use to click on a person or object. In-game it will look like *Schuyler Bain Points at* and then over the person or object it will say *Points Here*.

[emote or [e: in-game menu for pre-determined emotes which also include sound effects.

The most important tip is to have fun with it!

In Game Paper Doll and Back Story

Don't forget you can edit your in game descriptions using your paper doll and the scroll to the left for more back story on your character!
