Inscription in Ultima Online
Inscribed with steady hands and imbued with reagents, scrolls are vital in perilous situations. Inscription allows knowledgeable scribes to transcribe spells into useful magical scrolls.
To copy a spell to a scroll, a scribe needs a spellbook containing the spell. Spellbooks crafted by scribes can possess up to 3 magical properties like Faster Casting or Mana Increase, influenced by Magery skill (80 Magery = 1 property, 100 Magery = 3 properties). Inscription Recipes are essential for crafting such items.
Direct use of Inscription on a book quickly creates an exact copy, useful for "advertising leaflets" for events and auctions.
Training
Training requires many Blank Scrolls and Reagents:
- 0-30: Purchase from NPC Mage or Scribe.
- 30-55: Craft 4th Circle Scrolls.
- 55-65: Craft 5th Circle Scrolls.
- 65-85: Craft 6th Circle Scrolls.
- 85-94: Craft 7th Circle Scrolls.
- 94-100: Craft 8th Circle Scrolls.
Performing Scribing Arcane Knowledge up to skill level 50 at the New Haven Mage Library rewards a Hallowed Spellbook.
Magery with Inscription
Inscription boosts spell damage and affects buffs:
- GM Scribe adds 10% to Magery spell damage.
- Casting Focus increases base casting focus (5% at GM).
Tools and Resources
Essential tools include Scribe's Pens and scrolls. Reagents matching the spell and a full spellbook are required. Mana, boosted by Meditation skill, is crucial. A specialized suit with Intelligence Bonus, Mana Regeneration, and Mana Increase is recommended.
