Lumberjacking in Ultima Online

To start, equip either an axe or hatchet—whatever you can wield—and swing at nearby trees. There are plenty in town guardzones, like the farms west of Britain. If you can't hit the tree, check for the Circle of Transparency spell.

Chopping a tree yields messages like:

• "You hack at the tree but fail to produce usable wood."
• "You put some logs into your backpack," for 10 logs.
• "There's not enough wood here," meaning move on.
• "You can’t fit any more wood in your backpack!"

Manage weight by axing logs in your pack into boards (double click the axe, target logs).

As your skill improves, trees may yield rare woods randomly, changing over time.

At Grand Master level, find rare resources like Luminescent Fungi and Brilliant Amber.

• Lumberjack’s Satchel: 50% Weight Reduction, holds logs and boards.
• Harvester’s Axe: Automatically turns logs into boards.

• Heartwood, Bloodwood, Frostwood: 100 skill

Rare Resources: 100 skill

• Bark Fragments: Used by carpenters and chefs.
• Luminescent Fungi: For alchemy and imbuing.
• Parasitic Plant: For alchemy and imbuing.
• Switch: For making runed switches.
• Brilliant Amber: Multi-use rare resource.
• Crystal Shards: Very rare, found in Ter Mur.
