Save Strategy Optimizations and System Overhaul

We’ve rolled out some optimizations to our current save strategy as part of our ongoing system overhaul. These changes are designed to improve in-game save speed while we finalize and rigorously test the new system. Though it's only halfway there, the update already delivers noticeable performance gains. We wanted to share these improvements early to enhance your in-game experience while we work on the full upgrade.

  • Further reduced the entire size of the save file by 15%
  • Removed a lot of erroneous code no longer used by UOAlive. (e.g., anything related to Siege Perilous rulesets)
  • Fixed a few backend glitches in the matrix that had been hiding for a bit
  • Special thanks to Leoncia and Feathora for helping us squash a long-standing bug. Your personal statues were well earned! Bug Squasher Reward
  • And also Ragnall, Terror Knight, Ksfixitman, Mystic Ranger, CKroFun fo rtesting IDOCs.

On the Horizon: Upcoming Features and Events

As we transition into Fall, we're taking advantage of the quieter summer months to focus on optimizing UOAlive. Our growth has been exponential, and we want to ensure everything runs smoothly before diving into new features. But we know "optimization patch notes" aren't the most exciting reads, so here’s a sneak peek at some of the fun things we’re working on:

UOAlive Games/Election Cycle:

  • With the RL Olympics being less than stellar this year, we’re creating our own version of the UOAlive Games—a Renaissance Faire-style event that will travel from town to town. Keep an eye out, especially with the upcoming re-election for Governors Corner. Hope to see some campaigning! Debsmad from Breeville seems to be on it with some new amazing QoL improvements for Citizens of Vesper! Runic atlases, CUB locations, and even a Stables upgrade!

Major EM Event:

  • If you've noticed some intriguing activity lately, get ready—things are about to heat up! Risen Returns EM Event

Milestone: Order and Chaos:

  • We’re reimagining the Ethics system for a PvE environment, making Chaos and Order more meaningful than just a shield! This milestone will also tie into ongoing and future events. Bane Chosen EM Event

New Champion Spawn:

  • We’re brewing something big, but we’re keeping it under wraps for now.

And of course, Halloween

  • is just around the corner! UOAlive always goes all out, so get ready for some epic spooky fun.

We hope these teasers are more exciting than just "We optimized 1's and 0's." Stay tuned for more updates!

Additional Fixes and Improvements

Umbra Public Moongate:

  • Returned the Umbra public moongate to its normal design.

Blood Fox Spawns:

  • Added Blood Foxes to their normal spawning locations and adjusted their stats.
  • Buffed Blood Fox stats to be above or equal to what they should be.

Virtue Tapestry:

Misc Fixes:

  • Fixed addons deeds not retaining their resource color after redeed in some circumstances. (placing and redeeding 0 hue deeds that should have a hue will re-hue them)
  • Fixed addon for Weathered Man on a bench, he always felt like half his life was missing something... he is now whole. Poor guy had a rough go.
  • Fixed an issue allowing co-owners from editing Vendor Listings in someone else's house.
  • Removed unnecessary placement checks, allowing Castle Keeps to be placed in all valid spots.
  • Fixed an issue with Field Garden beds raising their planted dirt mounds if using Fertile Dirt.
  • Fixed an issue with Golem Controller drops.

Sovereign Exchange Rate Update

We are pleased with the gold reduction in the economy achieved through our annual summer adjustment to the Sovereign exchange rates. As we approach the end of summer and the beginning of autumn, we feel it is the right time to lower the price of Sovereigns.

The updated exchange rates are as follows:

  • 1000 Sovereigns for 1,250,000 Gold → 1 Sovereign = 1,250 Gold
  • 500 Sovereigns for 625,000 Gold → 1 Sovereign = 1,250 Gold
  • 250 Sovereigns for 312,500 Gold → 1 Sovereign = 1,250 Gold
  • 100 Sovereigns for 125,000 Gold → 1 Sovereign = 1,250 Gold
  • 50 Sovereigns for 62,500 Gold → 1 Sovereign = 1,250 Gold
  • 25 Sovereigns for 31,250 Gold → 1 Sovereign = 1,250 Gold

This adjustment reduces the price of Sovereigns by 250 Gold per Sovereign, representing a 16.67% reduction from the previous rate.

Clean Up Britannia (CUB) Reward Update

We’ve added a new item to the Clean Up Britannia (CUB) Reward system:

The Alacrity Scroll Picker.


This new item replaces the "Random Alacrity Scrolls" previously available, as we have phased out the old scrolls. The Alacrity Scroll Picker allows you to select the specific scroll you want, eliminating the RNG factor for those who still enjoy using them.

Additionally, we’ve adjusted the price to better align with the current market value of CUB points.

Players can now also trash phased-out Alacrity Scrolls and Books for CUB points as incentive to help remove these from the server load:

  • 50 points per scroll (must be remove from books)
  • 5000 points per book (empty and filled so be sure to remove the scrolls first)

Also available on the New Player Vendor for 17.5k Per on top of New Haven and at the Magincia Magical Stone Exchange

IDOC System Enhancements

  • Significantly optimized and fixed numerous issues within the IDOC system, improving overall performance by nearly 60%.
  • Enhanced the efficiency of the IDOC system, especially when handling multiple simultaneous IDOCs.
  • Adjusted the difficulty to better align with the complexity of each IDOC event.
  • Improved the stability and smoothness of gameplay in areas surrounding active IDOCs.
  • Introduced several new IDOC bosses to enrich the encounter variety during events.
  • Added a new IDOC mechanic.
