Peacemaking in Ultima Online

Effect:

  • Peacemaking allows you to soothe warring creatures and others in your vicinity.
  • It can be used in two ways: Area Peace and Targeted Peace.

Area Peace:

  • All creatures (and players if your skill is GM or above) in the area, except you, will be thrown out of war mode.
  • Creatures will retarget in 2-10 seconds; alert players will retarget faster.
  • To use, activate the Peacemaking skill and target yourself.

Targeted Peace:

  • To use on a specific creature, target the creature after activating the skill.
  • If successful, the creature will stop fighting but will try to resume if attacked.
  • The creature will eventually break the effect no matter how skilled the bard is.
  • There is a 5-second delay after a successful attempt and a 10-second delay after a failure.

Range:

  • The base range for all bard abilities is 8 tiles.
  • Each 15 points in the skill increases the range by 1 tile.
  • At 120/120 Musicianship and Peacemaking, the range is 18 tiles.
  • Bards must stay within this range for the effect to continue.

Note:

  • Targeted Peace does not work on player characters (PC) or non-player characters (NPC).

Using Peacemaking:

  • Also known as "Peacing," this skill requires some level of Musicianship.
  • It's valuable for a Bard and helpful for Animal Taming or Treasure Hunting.
  • Area Peacemaking: Activate the skill and target yourself to cease all aggression in the area for a few moments.
  • Targeted Peacemaking: Activate the skill and target a creature. If successful, the creature will stop attacking until sufficiently attacked or the bard loses line of sight for more than 10 seconds.
  • A difficulty check is performed each time based on the creature's Barding Difficulty versus the bard's combined skill in Musicianship and Peacemaking.

Training:

  • Obtain several musical instruments from a carpenter or NPC.
  • Use the Peacemaking skill and target yourself (Area Peacemaking) repeatedly until the desired skill level is achieved.
  • High-level creatures, such as Balrons or Ancient Wyrms, require very high levels of Peacemaking due to their high Barding Difficulty rating.
