Spellweaving in Ultima Online
Spellweaving is the spellcasting skill of an Arcanist, distinctively different from Magery. An Arcanist can summon powerful forces of nature and manifest them into various spell effects. To harness the full power of this art, the Arcanist must collaborate with others to cast an ‘Arcane Focus’. This cooperative effort is a defining feature that sets Spellweaving apart from other spellcasting schools. An Arcanist with the Spellweaving Mastery active can cast a lesser focus alone.
Acquiring Spellweaving
Initial Requirements:
- Spellweaving cannot be selected as a starting skill.
- To learn Spellweaving, you must prove your worth to the elves of Heartwood or Sanctuary by undertaking the quest "Learning the Ways of the Arcanist".
- Upon successful completion, you will receive a spellbook and two essential scrolls: Arcane Circle and Gift of Renewal.
Additional Spells:
- Two scrolls, Summon Fiend and Summon Fey, can only be obtained through quests.
- Other spells must be looted from monster corpses in specific dungeons or bought from player vendors. These dungeons include:
- Bedlam
- Blighted Grove
- Citadel
- Labyrinth
- Palace of Paroxysmus
- Painted Cave
- Prism of Light
- Sanctuary
- Twisted Weald
The most popular locations for gathering Spellweaving scrolls are the troglodytes in Painted Cave, Miasma in Labyrinth, and Swoop in Twisted Weald. The latter two have more frequent drops but are not recommended for training characters. Use Vendor Search to locate spells being sold by players.
Spellweaving Mechanics
- Casting: Spellweaving spells do not clear your hands when cast, so you do not need spell channeling equipment to keep your gear in hand. Additionally, they do not consume reagents.
- Equipment: Spellweaving is affected by Faster Casting and Faster Cast Recovery equipment but not by the Inscription skill.
- Damage: No Spellweaving spells are direct damage spells, so items with the ‘slayer’ property are ineffective.
Expansion and Mastery
- Spellweaving was introduced with the Mondain's Legacy expansion to encourage group spellcasting by providing bonuses for multiple Arcanists working together. However, staying together is unnecessary once the Arcane Crystal is obtained.
- New Characters: Cannot start with the Spellweaving skill; it must be earned by completing one of two Quest Chains: Patience or Discipline.
- Mastery: Spellweaving benefits from the following Masteries:
- Enchanted Summoning
- Mana Shield
- Summon Reaper
