Tailoring in Ultima Online

Tailoring is a versatile skill in Ultima Online that allows players to craft clothing and leather armor. Similar to blacksmithing, skill advancement up to 70 can be achieved through Bulk Orders and Tailoring Quests from Heartwood Elves.

Crafting Leather Armor

When crafting leather armor, several factors come into play:

  • Arms Lore: Provides bonuses to exceptionally crafted items and enhances the normal Exceptional Bonus.
  • Base Properties: Basic characteristics of the crafted item.
  • Material Bonuses: Bonuses based on the type of leather used.
  • Runic Bonuses: Additional magical properties when using Runic Reforging.

Creating Your Tailor

Ultima Online offers flexibility in character builds. Recommended skills include:

  • Tailoring: Start at 50% skill; there's no accelerated gain quest for this skill.
  • Arms Lore: Enhances item quality.
  • Tinkering: Enables crafting of tools.
  • Imbuing: Allows adding magical properties to crafted items.
  • Blacksmithy: Optional for crafting metal armor and weapons.
  • Mining: If pursuing Blacksmithy.
  • Carpentry and Lumberjacking: Alternative skills for crafting house add-ons and furniture.
  • Magery or Chivalry: Useful for travel and healing; Magery allows retaliation against hostile creatures.

Basic Tools

Essential tools include sewing kits, which can be purchased from NPCs or crafted with Tinkering for additional charges. Scissors are necessary, and optional tools include a dye tub for coloring and a salvage bag for recycling materials.

Spinning Wheel and Loom

These tools are used to create cloth from materials like flax, cotton, or wool. Bolts of cloth can be purchased or crafted if you have Carpentry skill and access to a house.

Getting Started

Begin your tailoring career by crafting Bulk Orders for NPCs. This not only improves your skill but also earns you gold.

Crafting Process

  • Load cloth into your backpack.
  • Double-click on your sewing kit to access the crafting menu.
  • Select the desired item category and type from the menu.
  • Adjust crafting options as needed, such as choosing cloth colors.
  • Use the "make now," "make number," or "make max" options depending on your crafting goals.

Working with Leather

Leather can be obtained from NPCs, harvested from creatures, or gathered from hides. Different creatures yield various types of leather with unique properties.

Arcane Clothing

Tailors with a skill level of 60 or higher can create Arcane Clothing using Arcane Gems. These items allow spellcasting without the need for reagents.
